Egotism = self-superiority, extreme self-value, self-regard
e.g. a friend may get egotism when he gets high status in life.
Egoism = selfishness
e.g. a friend may get egoism when he is studying with you.
note that during his study he may not be feeling condescension (i.e. may not get egotism) but he may be selfish regarding his school grades,
similarly after graduation he may not be selfish for you(i.e. may help you every time) but is self-superior man.
